How I came to embrace decluttering
A few years ago, I went to visit my sister, Lauren. Lauren and her husband had become experts at avoiding clutter in their lives. I had taken my 3rd child with me on the visit. As I filled a sippy cup, I remarked on the tidiness of their kitchen cupboards.
Lauren mentioned that they only owned 3 sippy cups.
Just 3! This little comment was a revelation to me.
At home, I had spent all kinds of time looking for just the right sippy cup, buying extra valves for our cups, trying to figure out how to store them all without overstuffing the cupboards. And here she was with just 3! One to use, one to wash and one extra. The simplicity of it boggled my mind!
Then Lauren told me how she and her husband had gone through much of their home and eliminated unnecessary things. They’d combed through boxes and boxes of paperwork and family photos. They’d pared down their books to only copies they enjoyed. It wasn’t an easy process, but it was so worth it in the end!
Their decluttered home didn’t seem sparse or empty; it was comfortable and without any mess or clutter.
I left with a renewed interest in eliminating the unnecessary things from my own life. And I love encouraging other people in this approach, too.
Sharing my love of decluttering with others
Over time, I realized I had a gift for encouraging others to declutter and enjoy the same freedom I had! So I wrote a book, Step-by-Step Decluttering. This book walks you through the process of discovering what clutter is costing you and why you want to make a change. Then you move into actual decluttering with small, focused projects lasting 20 minutes each.
I want you to experience the relief and freedom that comes from letting go of the clutter!

Here’s what people are saying.
I love this book! Since moving from a 3200 square foot home to a 1350 square foot duplex and storage building last year I’ve been decluttering for over a year but felt at times that I was hitting a wall or felt like I couldn’t let got of things that had no purpose any more for our family but had some sentimental value attached. Step-By-Step Decluttering is not only great because of the literal step-by-step guide for the process of decluttering but also for the encouragement and empowerment to let things go.
I am once again motivated to go through boxes and totes that I’ve ignored for months that are just taking up space and costing us money due to having to have a storage unit. Thank you for this motivation and the easy to follow steps and most importantly feeling like I have finally permission to set things free.
